Titian Studio
Titian Studio was a pottery studio in New Zealand that made decorative vases and Toby jugs. The studio was founded in 1951 by Cameron and Dorothy Brown in Waitakere, West Auckland.
History:
- The studio was originally called Sherwood Pottery, but was renamed Titian Studio around 1957.
- In 1958, the studio moved to Henderson and began experimenting with decorative glazes.
- In 1965, the studio moved to Takanini.
Style:
- The studio's pottery was similar to the neo-neo-classical Wedgewood ceramics that were popular in Britain in the 1950s and 1960s.
- The studio's pottery was designed to appeal to a prosperous New Zealand middle class.
- The studio's pottery was known for its extensive color palate, with "grey marble" being the signature type.
