New Zealand Art ‘Pare of Hinemihi’ - acrylic on canvas on ply by Alistair Martin
This is quintessential New Zealand art of a Pare (or lintel) from the Hinemihi marae, by Alistair Martin. The painting is acrylic and is based off the original carving by Wero Taroi in 1880-81.
Alistair has delicately painted an image of this lintel by replicating the carving that used to sit above the Hinemihi marae. The painting itself is on canvas, and glued onto untreated ply that has been cut in the shape of the lintel.
Alistair has created the impression that it is a carving with his clever art work.
The photos depict a stronger orange tone, however the actual colours itself is subdued with more of reddish hues.
